Welcome back to Weekly News! Due to coronavirus, there have been a lot less Weekly News updates as Ted and Ellie have been very busy with online lessons and they are also moving house, howeverm here is one now! In this issue of weekly news, we have an update on coronavirus and how it is affecting people, Who Was Pierre August Renoir, and some books recommended by Ted and Ellie!
First, an update on coronavirus:
What are the rules about coronavirus?
Currently, people are allowed to meet up in gardens and homes, as long as they remain over 1 metre away from each other. People are allowed to travel on public transport, but they should take all necessary precautions and only do this if necessary. Travelling is now allowed, but there are specific rules on quarantine when you return and arrive at the destination. Breaking rules can result in fines, as this can severely affect people and cause even more spread of the virus.
How is it affecting people?
Sadly, many people have died due to the coronavirus outbreak, and many more are in hospital. If a family member of friend has a previous health issue or is at risk, this can be extremely scary and troubling for anyone. Not being allowed to see friends without social distancing can also be quite hard for many people. Also, people have varying opinions on what action should be taken, which is leading to arguments and even protests, causing more spread of the virus. Therefore, people have to continue to be supportive of each other and especially the NHS, for working so hard to protect people with the virus, despite some people breaking the rules.
Will schools reopen?
It has been suggested that all schools will reopen in September without any social distancing rules, but this is unlikely as it would be dangerous for the children going there and their families. Some year groups are already going to school, but still have to mantain social distancing, and follow strict regulations.
What ways can I support others?
There are many ways you can show support to the NHS, for example painting a rainbow and putting it on the window or door. Also, there are websites and virtual meeting places where you can chat to friends online.
Next, Who Was Pierre August Renoir?
Renoir was an innovative artist, who began as a porcelain painter, who studied drawings in his spare time. He later helped launch the artistic movement Impressionism. Renoir, like other Impressionists, used a brighter palette for his paintings, creating a more cheerful and lively atmosphere in the piece, as well as different types of brushstrokes to capture his artistic ideas on the canvas.
Renoir’s most famous Impressionist paintings included Luncheon of the Boating Party, and La Loge (The Theatre Box in English). He was known for using bright, vibrant colours and short brush strokes in many of his impressionist paintings. Renoir was inspired by the style and subject matter of previous artists such as Camille Pissarro and Edouard Manet.
Finally, some recommended books!
1) Keeper of the Lost Cities – Ellie may have mentioned this book before, as it is her new favourite series. It is full of mysteries, adventure and fantasy, set in a world of elves, gnomes, ogres and goblins. It is recommended especially for fans of Harry Potter.
2) This Mortal Coil – This books series is recommended for older readers, but it is Ted’s favourite! Three thrilling science fiction novels about a girl who uses her knowledge in coding to defeat various enemies.
3) I am Malala – This book is the autobiography of a courageous girl named Malala who stood up for her rights to be educated.
