Hi, its Ted! In this new art post I will be explaining some key tips for self portraits. Usually our art posts are a list of instructions, but art should be creativity and freedom, so I will just include some ways for you to explore and try. First, choose your medium. Self portraits are not just defined by accurate mouths, ears, eyes and noses, but also about atmosphere and expression. If you use pastels for example, you can use shading to create atmosphere, while using paint means adding detailed facial expressions and colours can show what you are feeling in the portrait. Next, focus on the specific feelings you want to portray. Use a mirror or a photograph of yourself to look closely at all the details and add them in. Even your eyes can tell someone what you are feeling. Finally, make sure your portrait is drawn on the basis of things you know are true rather than what you have heard is true. For example, your eyes are actually halfway down your face!
Now you can start creating more portraits!
