This week we are going to be showing you how to make three amazing animal crafts! 1) Easy Animal Plant Pot! You will need: A print-out of your desired animal, some colourful paints and paintbrushes, a pot, tin can or jar, PVA glue and Blu Tack.
First, paint the whole surface white, cream or a light colour of your choice for a base coat. Then, paint an area of your pot, approximately the size of your animal, in one of your colours. Let that dry completely before adding a second coat if needed. Once that is done use a small amount of Blu tack to temporarily secure on your animal. Then paint the rest of your pot the second colour, painting over the edges of the animal if necessary. Use enough coats to cover the paint that you used underneath your animal. Peel off the animal to reveal a contrasting coloured pot. To secure the paint and prevent chipping, add a thin layer of PVA (or any other clear drying glue). Finally, you can add creative designs to your pot, or use this convenient technique to make more of these pots. Also, if you have extra craft items, such as colourful string, pom poms, stickers, and more, you can use this to decorate your pot. Now you have a cute and custom-made pot to grow some beautiful plants!
2) Potato Pawprint! You will need: A potato, a sharp knife (ask an adult to help you cut the potato), a piece of paper and some vibrant paints. First, slice your potato in half. Ask an adult to help you carve a pawprint or any other animal related shape into the flat side of it. Next, dip, your stamp into some paint and print it on the paper. Use a variety of designs and colours to create lots of abstract art with your potato. TIP: You can make the pawprints into a larger pawprint by overlapping them and joining some together, then use a pen to outline each individual pawprint to make a brilliant piece of art!
3) Animal Bookmark! You will need: colourful card, colourful paints, paintbrushes, thick white card, coloured crayons, a thick black pen and glue (PrittStick or similar). First, choose an animal with a simple face and features for the top of your bookmark. Cut out a rectangle and the outline of the animal on thick card. Next, paint and decorate the rectangle with pieces of colourful card, messy blobs of paint, and other items, using similar colours to match the habitat of your chosen animal. Then cut out the features of your animal in layers of white card (there is a more complicated, detailed example below, but you might want to start with something simpler), and glue it together. Rub over it with crayon, and add some details with black pen. Finally, glue this to the top of the bookmark, and you have created a brilliant bookmark! TIP: Make sure that your type of crayon does not rub off. If it does, you might want to coat it with a layer of glue to protect your pages, or let us know in the comments if you find a better solution.
Those were three amazing animal crafts, but… there is one more. Efficient and easy, this craft allows you to be creative, resourceful and make use of old household items. We won’t give you the exact instructions, but here are some quick examples: making a monkey out of an old cork, some twisted wire or elastic bands, and paint; making a bird out of a key ring, some colourful feathers, and some fabric; andmaking a mouse out of some plasticine, glitter and rubber bands! Figure out some creative ways to use these objects, and write about it in the comments. Ted, Jack and Ellie can’t wait to hear about them!
